Growing up in Western North Carolina inspired a love of all things beautiful for Laura Sullivan. “My inspiration is the beauty, softness and simplicity of the horizon and these soothing mountains.”
Laura creates paintings that reflect the softness of landscapes in an impressionist form and uses many of them in spaces she furnishes for her design business, ID.ology. “I’ve always had a special place in my heart for art and anything creative,” Laura adds. She followed that passion and talent for creating by enrolling in art, carving, painting and drawing classes throughout school, eventually minoring in Art at Appalachian State University.
Laura’s design office in West Asheville serves as a tranquil meeting space for clients, but she can often be found outside with canvas and easel. “It is incredibly important to have a comfortable and special place to create,” says Laura. That special place is usually outdoors, with the sounds and lighting of nature surrounding her.
As a little girl, Laura was inspired by both her Mother and Aunt Trula, as they dabbled in arts and crafts. Later on, through family and individual involvement, Laura gained experience in real estate, building, and renovation. This lifelong connection has fostered a desire to help transform living spaces to positively impact and reflect the people who reside in them. Her art seeks to add peace and joy to both homes and businesses.
“In design, your own taste is timeless. Nothing you truly love will ever be out of style for you,” Laura explains. With an eye and knowledge for all aspects of the design process from the ground up, inside and out, Laura brings this timeless vision to her paintings, her design projects and her life’s work.
Laura’s gentle landscapes, inspired by nature’s beauty are effortlessly incorporated into client’s lives and spaces. Laura sums up her philosophy, “Art is an expression of vision, taste, interest, and passion.”
